Car Flips onto Roof, Closes Middle Road Near Calbourne Mill
A dramatic crash has brought Middle Road near Calbourne Mill on the Isle of Wight to a standstill tonight after a car ended up on its roof.
Road Shut Both Ways After Shocking Flip
The collision happened just after 5.40pm Sunday, forcing police to shut Middle Road at Chessel Potteries with a hard closure. Emergency teams rushed to the scene to free three people trapped inside the overturned vehicle.
Fire Crews Race to Rescue
- Fire appliances from Newport and Freshwater were dispatched immediately.
- Rescue Tender from Newport was also on site to assist.
The vehicle blocks both carriageways, meaning the road closure is expected to last for some time.
Buses Diverted, Timetables Disrupted
Southern Vectis has diverted buses and revised schedules. At 5.55pm, bus route 27 was stuck at Westover Lodge Farm bus stop, unable to pass through Calbourne towards Newport.
Fire crews from Freshwater and Newport were eventually stood down en route, as no further action was needed.
