Armed Forces Win Praise for COVID-19 Battle Efforts
Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has hailed the UK Armed Forces for their crucial role in the fight against COVID-19. Her praise comes after Defence Secretary Ben Wallace revealed how thousands of military personnel have joined the battle on multiple fronts.
5,300 Troops Deployed Nationwide
This week in the House of Commons, Ben Wallace detailed that 5,300 service members are supporting pandemic efforts across the UK and abroad. Their work includes backing mass community testing and speeding up the vaccine rollout. Thanks to these efforts, more than 3 million jabs have now been given nationwide.
Local Military Heroes Deliver Frontline Support
Representing an area with a proud military tradition, Caroline Dinenage applauded the largest peacetime operation ever undertaken by the Armed Forces. She will receive an update from Portsmouth’s Royal Navy Base Commander, Commodore Bailey, and HMS Sultan’s Commanding Officer. This briefing will cover everything from training updates to how personnel are helping local services.
“I am so proud to see our brilliant armed forces stepping up to the plate as always and playing such an integral role in our fight against COVID-19,” said Caroline. “From supporting our NHS services, to coordinating mass testing and vaccinations, they continue to protect our residents from a very different foe.”

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace added: “Our country faces an unprecedented challenge and our Armed Forces are working hand in hand with the NHS. We will continue to bolster those on the front line as they protect and care for the most vulnerable.”
Chief of Defence Staff General Sir Nick Carter also praised the troops, saying: “These are really challenging times for everyone at the moment. We all have a role to play in supporting those on the frontline. As ever, the Armed Forces are there to play our part in this collective national enterprise. We are proud to do what we can to provide our expertise wherever it is most needed.”
