Thief Steals Cherished Wightlink Ship Plaque During Final Farewell
Shameful lowlife ruins the send-off for the iconic Wightlink ferry St. Cecilia by swiping a treasured plaque during her last sailing.
St. Cecilia Bids Emotional Goodbye
The beloved St. Cecilia sailed the Solent for the final time last Friday, ending decades of loyal service between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. In all weather, she carried passengers seven days a week and was a true local legend.
Staff pulled out all the stops to celebrate the retirement, working extra shifts and even footing the bill for special “Celia beers” to mark the occasion. The party was joyful—until someone spoiled it by stealing a valuable keepsake.
Beloved Plaque Stolen in Broad Daylight
The precious Cochrane’s Shipyard “Ship 135” plaque vanished from a display board just as passengers disembarked at Gunwharf. The plaque, owned by a dedicated staff member who has treasured it for over 10 years, was kept in a special glass case at home.
“It was there—we turned our backs for literally a moment—and then it was gone,” said the devastated owner. “I am truly, truly heartbroken.”
Appeal Launched to Find Stolen Memorabilia
The owner stressed this was no ordinary office item but a personal keepsake given when the bar layout changed a decade ago. They have appealed for its safe return, promising no questions asked.
If you have any info or the plaque itself, please send it discreetly in an envelope to:
