Channel 4 Greenlights Gripping New Drama ‘Trespasses’
Channel 4 has ordered a hard-hitting four-part series, Trespasses, adapted from Louise Kennedy’s celebrated debut novel. The show will be produced by Wildgaze Films, the BAFTA-winning and double Oscar-nominated powerhouse behind some of TV’s most acclaimed dramas. Rising star Ailbhe Keogan lands her first lead writer role on this intense new project.
Forbidden Love Amid The Troubles
Set in 1975 near Belfast, Trespasses follows Cushla, a young Catholic teacher played by Lola Petticrew, who falls for Michael, an older Protestant barrister played by Tom Cullen. Their secret romance unfolds during the Troubles, a time when tension, fear, and violence gripped Northern Ireland.
The series promises a raw, emotional dive into love and loyalty caught in a divided society. Petticrew and Cullen’s casting is set to bring real depth and authenticity to these star-crossed lovers, pulling viewers into their dangerous world.
Wildgaze and Keogan Bring Powerful Drama to Life
Wildgaze Films delivers top-tier production value, aiming to make Trespasses a visual and emotional knockout. For writer Ailbhe Keogan, the series marks a major career milestone, already generating buzz in industry circles for her sharp, compelling script.
Channel 4’s Commitment to Bold Storytelling
Channel 4’s drama boss Caroline Hollick voiced her excitement:
“We are thrilled to bring Louise Kennedy’s beautifully crafted story to our viewers. Trespasses is a tale of forbidden love set against a backdrop of historical significance, and we are confident that it will resonate deeply with audiences.”
Production kicks off later this year with a 2025 release expected. With its mix of passion, peril, and history, Trespasses looks set to be a standout hit on Channel 4’s original drama slate.
