Boxing Day Rescue in Dead of Evening
A Coastguard rescue helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent raced to save a seriously ill heart attack patient from the Isle of Wight on Boxing Day, just after 7pm.
With no ferries running between the Isle of Wight and the mainland, time was critical. The patient was airlifted from St Mary’s Hospital in Newport straight to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

The helicopter touched down at Horsea Landing Site in Portsmouth, where Portsmouth Coastguard team members swiftly handed the patient over to an awaiting ambulance. The short journey to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham was completed on land.
