Base Jumper Stranded by Bank Holiday Tide at Peacehaven Beach
Emergency Rescue Scrambles After Reckless Jump
Emergency Coastguard and RNLI lifeboat crews were scrambled just after midday on Peacehaven Beach after a base jumper was caught off guard by the incoming tide and left stranded. The man’s risky stunt backfired when rising waters cut him off from the shore.
RNLI Lifeboat Launches Daring Rescue
The all-weather Severn class lifeboat was dispatched after coastguard teams deemed it too dangerous to reach the man on foot. A spokesman said:
“Our RNLI volunteers were called out shortly after 12pm to reports of a person cut off. The all-weather Severn class lifeboat was launched and sent to the scene. Rescue teams used a ‘Y’ boat to reach the man sheltering on rocks at the base of the cliffs.”
Coastguard Issues Stark Warning on Tides
Following the rescue, the coastguard slammed the jumper’s reckless behaviour and urged the public to always check tide times.
“It could save your life,”
they warned, urging beachgoers to plan ahead and avoid dangerous situations.
