Beware! Irish Conman Scams Drivers with Fake 65-Inch TVs on Surrey and Hampshire Lay-Bys

An Irish conman is targeting motorists on Surrey and Hampshire lay-bys, offering cheap 65-inch flat-screen TVs that are nothing but a scam. The short-statured traveller, who claims to hail from Luton, uses a dodgy white 2004 Renault Trafic van stuffed with “bargain” televisions to trick victims out of their cash.

Van Packed with Fake TVs and False Promises

The crook opens the side door of his van at rest areas and lay-bys along the busy A3, flashing bubble-wrapped TVs with price tags over £2,000. He boasts he has warehouse staff at Curry’s who pull strings to get these sets at half price – but it’s all smoke and mirrors.

In reality, the “65-inch TVs” are broken 50-inch JVV returns wrapped in black film to hide their poor condition. The conman’s slick sales pitch includes fake Corgi Gas Safe stickers plastered on the van’s doors to seem legitimate.

Known Haunts and Warning Signs

The scammer, who speaks with a slight stutter, tries to lure buyers with prices starting at £350, sometimes dropping to £300 if he’s “having a good day.” But don’t fall for it – the sets are junk and the deal’s a con.
