On the morning of Friday, 22nd December, Eastbourne Coastguard encountered an unexpected blaze—a tractor fire during their routine rounds. The team quickly sprung into action, spotting the tractor engulfed in flames during their checks.
Quick Rescue Call and Crowd Control
The Coastguard immediately dialled up the fire brigade for backup. While waiting, they took charge of the scene, managing onlookers and keeping the roads clear for emergency vehicles to get through without delay.
Haystack Inferno and Firefighters’ Tactics
The fire rapidly escalated, consuming the tractor’s haystacks—estimated at 15 tonnes—along with the trailer. Luckily, thanks to swift teamwork, no one was hurt.
“At 12.20pm, we were called to a tractor fire on Beachy Head Road, East Dean,” said a spokesperson from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. “The blaze involved a trailer fully engulfed along with 15 tonnes of hay. Our crews tackled it with continuous water jets to keep the fire under control and ensure safety.”
No Injuries Reported, Scene Under Control
Emergency services confirm there were no casualties. With Coastguard and firefighters coordinating closely, the incident was handled efficiently, preventing further damage or disruption.
