Chemical scare at Crook Log Leisure Centre sparks evacuation

Crook Log Leisure Centre in Bexleyheath was plunged into chaos this morning after a chemical spill forced a full evacuation. Firefighters rushed to the scene just before 10am on Tuesday, 18th July 2023.

Chemical Smell Sends 60 Fleeing

A strong smell of chemicals inside the Brampton Road facility raised alarms. Around 60 people were hurriedly evacuated as a safety precaution. While the exact substance hasn’t been officially confirmed, reports suggest a leak of chlorine gas from the plant room.

Emergency Services Descend on Leisure Centre

The London Ambulance Service dispatched paramedics alongside two fire engines and two fire rescue units. Firefighters donned hazmat suits and entered the building to check contamination levels and monitor harmful chemical readings.

Centre Closed Until Further Notice

Crook Log Leisure Centre has shut its doors indefinitely, apologising for the disruption. “We will update customers as soon as more information is available,” the centre said in a statement.
