DJ Day Day Joins BBC 1Xtra in Huge Birmingham Move
BBC 1Xtra Snaps Up Birmingham’s DJ Day Day
BBC 1Xtra has just landed a major new presenter – Birmingham-born DJ Day Day. He’s set to host their second daytime show outside London, bringing fresh vibes and killer energy to listeners across the UK.
From Viral Mixes to Big-Name Gigs
DJ Day Day’s no stranger to the spotlight. He’s rubbed shoulders with the heavyweights – Nas, Trey Songz, J Cole, Stormzy and more. His lockdown DJ mixes exploded online, grabbing over 250,000 TikTok followers. The man’s streams hit 40 million on platforms including Mixcloud and Soundcloud.
He’s a genre chameleon too, mastering RnB, Hip Hop, UK Rap, Afrobeats, Dancehall, Bashment, Funky House, Grime, and Garage. His presenting skills are sharp after hosting his own show for BBC 1 West Midlands.
BBC’s Bold Birmingham Push
This new daytime show is part of BBC 1Xtra’s plan to spread talent beyond London’s borders. Birmingham’s already home to Kaylee Golding’s weekday 1Xtra show and Theo Johnson’s Sunday Introducing Show, which spotlights new artists.
These moves back the BBC’s “Across the UK” strategy, aiming to showcase regional voices and invest in local communities. The BBC pumps over £305 million annually into the West Midlands economy, proving their commitment.
Excitement All Round
“Being a 1Xtra presenter has been one of my career goals FOR YEARS. It’s on my vision board and it’s now become my reality! I’m extremely blessed and honoured to be given this opportunity and I can’t wait to connect with the 1Xtra audience!” – DJ Day Day
“Day Day is a top-tier DJ with an incredible passion for Black music who comes from the heart of Birmingham, and we’re very excited to welcome him to the 1Xtra family.” – Faron McKenzie, Head of BBC 1Xtra
