Littlehampton RNLI Lifeboats Rush to Rescue Twice in One Day
Young Boy Plucked from River Arun
At 10.15am on Saturday, Littlehampton RNLI lifeboat crew sprang into action when Robbie, an eight-year-old boy-about-to-be, accidentally plunged into the River Arun. The youngster fell in from the river’s western bank opposite Littlehampton pier.
Thankfully, the Ray of Hope lifeboat crew rescued Robbie cold but unharmed. He was soon reunited with his relieved owners, ending what could have been a disaster.
Motorboat Breakdown Sparks Second Lifeboat Call-Out
The RNLI’s Renee Sherman lifeboat was scrambled again at 3.38pm after a motorboat broke down about a mile off Littlehampton’s coast. HM Coastguard called for help, and the crew located the stranded boat and safely towed it back to Littlehampton Marina.
Catamaran Drama Avoided
Less than an hour after returning, the volunteer crew were called out a third time. A small catamaran was drifting into harbour without engine or sails. Luckily, it made it safely to its own mooring unaided.
Nick White, Lifeboat Operations Manager, said: “With such glorious weather, it was no wonder we were called into service three times today. We are always on call to help, but would like to remind everyone visiting the coast to stay safe and be alert to any possible dangers.”
