Dog Sparks Bedroom Blaze in Christmas Eve Horror
A bizarre accident left a bedroom smothered in smoke on Christmas Eve after a dog allegedly started a fire by switching on a hairdryer left on a bed.
Firefighters Race to Extinguish Smouldering Blaze
Fire crews rushed to the scene on Saturday evening, December 24, after reports of smoke filling a house. On arrival, they found a smouldering fire in a bedroom and quickly doused the flames.
How the Fire Started: Hairdryer Left On, Dog Gets Involved
Watch Manager Gary Shinn explained: “The homeowner was out and came back to find her bedroom full of smoke. We believe the fire started because a hairdryer was left plugged in and on a bed. We think the dog jumped on the bed, turned the hairdryer on, which eventually caused the bedding and mattress to ignite.”
He warned: “Once you’ve finished with electrical appliances like hairdryers and straighteners, please unplug them. The homeowner wouldn’t have thought her dog would turn on the hairdryer, but unplugging gives you peace of mind.”
Dog and Owner Treated for Smoke Inhalation
Thankfully, the dog was waiting safely by the front door when the homeowner returned. Both were treated for smoke inhalation but avoided serious injury.
