Mass Arrival at Dungeness Hours After Navy Takes Control

The group landed at Dungeness just hours after Boris Johnson handed over control of the UK’s migrant crisis to the Royal Navy. Some raised their hands in celebration, while others collapsed on the shingle under the 24°C sunshine.

From Northern France to UK Shore

The dinghy reportedly set off from northern France earlier on Monday, navigating the treacherous 21-mile Dover Strait. It was closely monitored by the RNLI before reaching the beach around 1pm.

Rising Channel Crossings Strain UK Border

This latest arrival follows a wave of 600 migrants who made the crossing on 12 boats the previous Wednesday. Police and Civil Defence were called after members of the public reported the dinghy landing.

The grey dinghy came ashore roughly 30 miles from the port of Dover, highlighting the increasing frequency and risk of Channel crossings as 2022 continues to see rising numbers.
