25 Migrants Touch Down on Dungeness Beach After Channel Crossing
About 25 migrants landed on a Kent beach on Monday, arriving in a single dinghy after braving the English Channel. The dramatic arrival came just hours after Boris Johnson handed control of the UK migrant crisis to the Royal Navy.
Hands Raised in Triumph After Dangerous 21-Mile Crossing
The grey dinghy was spotted off Dungeness, roughly 30 miles from Dover, after setting off from northern France earlier that morning. Despite the perilous 21-mile Dover Strait crossing, some migrants celebrated by raising their hands in the air. Others sat exhausted on the pebbled shore under bright 24C sunshine.
The RNLI closely monitored the vessel as it approached the coast and eventually landed around 1pm.
Thousands Keep Coming as Crisis Deepens
This latest landing follows a wave of migrant arrivals last Wednesday, when 600 people reached UK shores on 12 boats. Numbers continue to rise in 2022, intensifying pressure on authorities.
Police Called as Public Report New Arrival
Civil Defence Police were alerted after members of the public spotted the dinghy’s arrival on Thursday afternoon. Some migrants needed support moving ashore, highlighting the dangers of the Channel crossing.
The ongoing surge in crossings means the Royal Navy now spearheads efforts to manage the growing crisis across these treacherous waters.
