Catford House Fire Sparks Daring Roof Rescue
A massive fire ripped through a home on Renshaw Close, Catford, on Saturday morning, triggering a dramatic rescue that could have ended in tragedy. Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters battled the blaze that gutted the first floor and loft conversion of the house.
Firefighter’s Quick Thinking Saves Woman From Death
Station Commander Mike Watts revealed how a firefighter heroically grabbed a woman teetering on a pitched roof. Using a nine-metre ladder, the brave rescuer stopped her from plunging to the ground. The tense operation involved:
- Stopping the woman from falling
- Setting up a second ladder for safe escape
- Providing immediate treatment for smoke inhalation
Three Hospitalised After Blaze
The fire forced the evacuation of three residents:
- One woman rescued from the roof
- Two others escaped before firefighters arrived
- All three taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service
- One individual believed to have serious injuries
Emergency Services Mobilise Quickly
More than 20 emergency calls flooded Brigade Control. Crews sprang into action from New Cross, Beckenham, Greenwich, and Lee Green. The first call came in at 7:31am. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 9:39am.
