Driver Dies in Horror Three-Car Smash on A47 Near Wansford
Tragedy struck on Tuesday afternoon when John Jenkins, 72, of Leicester, lost his life in a serious collision on the A47 near Wansford.
Three-Vehicle Crash Leaves One Dead and Others Injured
The 72-year-old was behind the wheel of a Mazda 3SE when it collided with a red Renault Clio and a silver Fiat Fullback at around 4pm.
Despite desperate efforts by emergency crews and passersby, Jenkins died at the scene.
Passengers Hurt but Survive
- The Mazda passenger was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital and remains in serious but stable condition.
- The Renault driver also suffered serious, though non life-threatening, injuries and was hospitalised.
- The Fiat driver emerged unharmed from the crash.
Road Closure and Appeal for Witnesses
The A47 was shut both ways for several hours before reopening once the wreckage was cleared.
Police are urging anyone who saw the vehicles before the collision or has dashcam footage to come forward.
