DWP Takes Access to Work Online! The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has made a big move to modernise support for disabled workers. You can now apply for core grants from the Access to Work scheme online via the GOV.UK website, making life easier for thousands.
Access to Work Goes Digital
Access to Work is a lifeline for disabled people, helping fund workplace adjustments so they can get on with their jobs. Last year alone, the scheme helped 50,000 people get the support they need. Now, ditching paper forms, the application process has been streamlined and made more accessible with digital claims and applications.
This upgrade fits with the DWP’s push to boost disabled employment, helping 400,000 more disabled people join the workforce in the last year alone.
What You Can Apply For Online
- Special aids and equipment
- Support workers
- Travel to work, including travel during work
- Adaptations to premises or equipment
- Communications support at interviews
Claiming for these costs can now be done quickly and easily online — no more hassle with phone or postal claims, though those options remain for those who prefer them.
Real Lives Changed
Mims Davies MP, Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work, highlighted how vital Access to Work is. “It provides essential support, helping disabled people and employers make the right adjustments,” she said. “Digitising the scheme is a key step to making this process seamless.”
Take Ross Cheeseman, 39, for example. Thanks to Access to Work funding, Ross received tailored help including tutoring and work assistance, landing a permanent job at Turning Heads — a social enterprise in Torquay. His story shows just how powerful the scheme can be.
Alan Tilley, Joint Director at Turning Heads, praised Access to Work for helping Ross and creating more inclusive opportunities for workers with disabilities.
Who Can Apply?
If you’re employed, self-employed, about to start work, on a supported internship or traineeship, involved in work experience or a trial, or need communication help at an interview, then you’re eligible to apply.
Access to Work continues to break down barriers and support disabled workers up and down the UK, proving to be a true beacon of workplace inclusion and empowerment.
