Baseball Bat Blows Turn Deadly in East London Brawl

A man has been convicted of manslaughter after bludgeoning a victim to death with a baseball bat during a brutal street fight in Newham.

Emdadul Islam Found Guilty of Manslaughter

Emdadul Islam, 23, from Fowler Road, E7, was found guilty today at the Old Bailey for the manslaughter of 31-year-old Titu Miah. The trial began on 12 April, where Islam admitted carrying an offensive weapon but denied manslaughter. The victim died after suffering a fatal head injury during the fight in Plashet Road in October 2017.

Violence Erupts on Plashet Road

  • During the confrontation, Islam struck Miah over the head with a baseball bat.
  • A 16-year-old boy was also stabbed multiple times in his leg and chest by Yasin Patel, 21, from Queens Road West, E13.
  • Patel pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon and grievous bodily harm with intent.
  • Patel and Islam are due to be sentenced on 2 and 3 May respectively.

Shocking Attack Caught on CCTV

The fight began when Miah and his stepson Patel pulled up in a Mercedes. Following a scuffle, the teenage victim attempted to run away but was chased and stabbed by Patel. Meanwhile, Islam, reportedly at a nearby barbershop, fetched a baseball bat from his car and launched a savage surprise attack on Miah.

Islam was captured on CCTV arriving in his BMW and later returning to the barbershop after the assault. He fled the scene but was arrested days later.

Detective’s Take on the Deadly Scuffle

“Islam wasn’t involved initially but armed himself and deliberately attacked Miah, delivering a head injury he couldn’t survive,” said DS Perry Benton, head of the investigation.

“Patel stabbed the 16-year-old, who thankfully survived. The motive is unclear but may stem from a dispute involving Patel and a relative of the victim.”

“This daylight violence on a quiet road ended in tragedy and leaves two men facing lengthy jail sentences.”
