Fire Rips Through Industrial Paper Shredder

A blaze has damaged part of a 20-tonne industrial paper shredder in a dramatic fire. The conveyor belt and hopper – the bulk waste container – were scorched in the inferno.

Quick Evacuation and No Injuries

About 20 people escaped the premises before firefighters arrived. Station Commander Dave Hill said: “A conveyor belt used to move paper through an industrial shredder was alight and the building was heavily smoke-logged.”

He added: “Crews remained on scene this afternoon damping down. There were no reports of any injuries.”

Fire Brigade Battles Blaze for Hours

The Brigade was called out at 10:10am and brought the fire under control by 1:41pm. Firefighters from Plumstead, Bexley, Erith, Sidcup, and Eltham stations, alongside Kent Fire and Rescue Service crews, all raced to the scene.

Investigation Underway

The cause of the blaze remains unknown and is currently being investigated.
