Electric Car Crashes into Newton Abbot Garden Shed
Firefighters rushed to Newton Abbot this afternoon after reports of a vehicle fire. They soon found an electric car had smashed through a low brick wall and crashed into a residential garden shed.
Crews from Newton Abbot fire station arrived with one appliance to tackle the unexpected scene. Thankfully, all occupants had already escaped the car safely, and no injuries were reported.
High-Voltage Hazards Prompt Specialist Response
Because the vehicle was electric, firefighters used their Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) to identify the car’s killswitches and high-voltage system isolators. This vital info helped them handle the electric risks safely.
Damage from the collision meant crews had to cut and spread the bonnet to reach the electric components. This careful work allowed them to de-energise the vehicle and secure the scene without incident.
Fire Service Issues Safety Warning
“Crews acted quickly to identify the high-voltage hazards involved and used specialist equipment to make the vehicle safe. We’re thankful no one was injured, and we remind the public to take extra caution around electric vehicles following a collision.”
