Blaze Breaks Out in Newport – Fire Crews Rush to Scene

Massive Fire Erupts at St George’s Lane

Firefighters from across the Isle of Wight scrambled to tackle a huge fire in the open at St George’s Lane, Newport, tonight. The blaze spans roughly 30 by 20 metres, sending smoke billowing into the sky.

Multiple Fire Units Mobilised

Newport fire crews arrived first, quickly joined by specialist teams from Freshwater and Ventnor. A total of four fire engines and two water carriers have been battling the flames since just after 9.45pm.

Firefighting Efforts in Full Swing

Group Manager Dean Haywood reported the fire has been surrounded using beaters and attacked with two main jets of water. Water is being supplied through a relay system from the water carriers to keep the blaze under control.

Police Investigate Suspicious Cause

Police have also been called to the scene owing to the fire’s suspicious nature. Authorities are probing the cause as firefighters continue their efforts.
