New Wig-Wag Signals Boost Safety Outside Horsham Fire Station
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, teaming up with West Sussex County Council’s Highways, has rolled out fresh road signs and wig-wag signals at their spanking new Training Centre and Horsham Fire Station. The goal? To sharpen road safety and get fire engines rushing to emergencies without a hitch.
What Are Wig-Wag Signals?
These warning devices, usually seen at railway crossings, flash two red lights and one amber in a triangle. Positioned on the slip road joining the busy A24 dual carriageway, the wig-wags alert drivers when fire engines are about to burst onto the road.
Obey the Lights or Risk Lives
Matt Davey, Assistant Director at West Sussex County Council, spells it out: “When an amber light flashes, that’s your heads-up. When two red lights flash, stop everything and let the fire engines get moving.”
Drivers ignoring the signals risk delaying vital emergency responses. Horsham Station Manager Roy Barraclough warns, “If you don’t stop, fire engines get stuck on the forecourt. That slows response times and puts lives at risk.”
Extra Safety Measures and Your Duty
- Additional stop signs are being put up around the area.
- Drivers must stay alert and get to know the new signs.
- Following these rules could be a matter of life or death.
Remember, these new wig-wag lights aren’t just fancy fixtures—they’re lifesavers. Keep your eyes peeled and obey the signals to help West Sussex heroes get to emergencies faster.
