Brighton Buses Turn into Treasure Troves in 2023
Brighton and Hove’s buses became unexpected treasure chests this year. The city’s lost property team uncovered a wild collection of forgotten items, revealing the quirky and creative community that rides its buses daily.
From Scooters to Bicycles – The Weird and Wonderful
Sure, wallets, phones, and keys topped the usual lost and found. But things took a bizarre turn with 71 manual scooters handed in – that’s more than one a week! Even five bicycles turned up abandoned on the city’s public transport.
Musical & Artistic Flair on Board
Brighton’s artistic side hit the lost property too. Staff found four guitars, a silver flute, a harmonica, drumsticks, guitar picks, sheet music, and empty instrument cases. Not to be outdone, full canvas paintings and other artworks also popped up, showing off the city’s creative vibe.
Umbrellas, Cash & Some Very Odd Finds
- Over 400 umbrellas, proving Brighton’s famously unpredictable weather.
- More than £1,000 cash returned, showing how honest locals really are.
- Nine pieces of underwear, including a bra and thong.
- A velvet pouch containing an adult toy and even an iron – yes, you read that right.
- Larger oddities like golf clubs, a drying rack, an air mattress, and a giant cuddly elephant.
- A replica sword, toilet seat, pom poms, and dentures also made the list.
The Most Baffling Bag: Cat Included!
The weirdest discovery? A large suitcase packed with three empty egg boxes, a giant stuffed dog, a single shoe, six 3-foot wooden planks, a dressing gown… and someone’s cat. Thankfully, the poor feline was safely returned to a local vet.
