Bomb scare on Southsea Common sparks huge police response
Clarence Parade, Osborne Road, and Avenue De Caen remain shut after a small explosion caused chaos this lunchtime. Police have blocked off the area and are redirecting traffic and pedestrians away from the scene.
Explosion in Dustbin Triggers 100m Police Cordon
The blast, believed to have come from a smouldering barbecue mixed with an old rocket-style firework, happened near Southsea Tennis Pavilion and Watkins & Faux. Police swiftly erected a 100-metre cordon around the scene, closing off Southsea Common and key local roads.
Sniffer Dogs on Alert as Ambulances Rush In
Officers deployed sniffer dogs to scour the common for any other suspicious devices. Several police cars and ambulances were spotted outside the nearby portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth Pyramid Centre as emergency teams secured the area.
One Man Injured But Now Discharged
“A man was injured in this incident and required hospital treatment,” said Hampshire Police. “Thankfully, he has been discharged with minor injuries.”
The force urged the public to dispose of barbecues and fireworks safely to avoid similar incidents. Residents near the blast were advised to stay on ground floors, away from windows, as a precaution during the investigation.
