UK Locks Down Flu Vaccine Supply Amid Soaring Global Demand
The UK government has stepped in to safeguard flu vaccine supplies as worldwide demand surges during the coronavirus pandemic. The Department of Health and Social Care confirmed there is enough flu vaccine stock nationally, with deliveries to healthcare providers continuing over the coming months.
Government Moves to Stop Export Shortages
A spokesperson said: “The Department of Health and Social Care has taken this action in response to high demand for the flu vaccine from other countries to mitigate against the risk of these products being exported.”
Matt Hancock Vows to Protect UK Patients
Health Secretary Matt Hancock declared, “We will always act to ensure that the medicines and vaccines destined for UK patients are protected and get to those who need them.”
This move aims to secure flu vaccinations for 30 million people ahead of what officials describe as an “unprecedented” flu season. Last month, the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned that northern hemisphere countries were struggling to source enough flu vaccines.
