Blaze Breaks Out in Shoreham Commercial Building on Boxing Day
A fire tore through a commercial building in Shoreham this Boxing Day afternoon, sparking a swift and major emergency response.
Firefighters Battle Flames Inside and Out
At 3:32pm on December 26, Joint Fire Control was alerted to a fire at Upper Shoreham Road. Fire engines from Shoreham and Worthing raced to the scene, backed up by East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service crews.
Flames were spotted erupting from an external ducting system. Firefighters in breathing apparatus stormed inside to tackle the blaze head-on, while others attacked from outside to stop the fire spreading upwards to the roof.
Quick Action Saves Nearby Flat from Damage
The rapid response paid off. The fire was contained before it could reach the roof space, protecting the flat above from harm.
Accidental Fire Cause Confirmed, Safety Checks Underway
A spokesperson from West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service confirmed the fire was accidental. They added firefighters will return today to advise neighbouring premises on fire safety.
“Due to the quick actions of the initial crews, the fire was prevented from entering the roof space and didn’t affect the flat above,” said the spokesperson.
“We will carry out community fire safety work and provide guidance to local residents and businesses.”
