Six fire crews from London Fire Brigade raced to Bickley Road, Bromley, after a major water main burst just after 5pm on Tuesday. The rush was to stop hundreds of thousands of pounds in damage to homes and belongings.

The busted pipe is a massive 250mm diameter main, supplying hundreds of homes in Bromley and Chislehurst. Firefighters deployed specialist portable pumps to battle the surging water levels.

Desperate Measures to Protect Homes

Crews also used portable booms and a water barrier to hold back floods and prevent water from invading properties. Their swift action could save residents from costly damage.
