PC’s Emotional Appeal to Find M3 Miracle Baby
PC Lindsay Yates is on a mission to track down an 18-year-old she helped deliver on the side of the M3 back in 2005. The dramatic roadside birth happened near Junction 11, Winchester, when a woman went into labour and paramedics couldn’t get there in time.
Dramatic Roadside Delivery on M3
“I was on patrol with my crew mate Ian, heading to a workshop in Winchester,” PC Yates recalls. “We got called to a car stopped at Junction 11 northbound – the woman was in advanced labour. Ambulances were tied up, so we had to step in.”
When Lindsay rolled up, she spotted the dad-to-be, pale as a “sheet,” mid-phone call. Then she saw the mum reclined with her baby’s head already crowning between her legs.
“I scrambled around to the passenger side and yelled for Ian to help, knowing he was a new dad,” she said. “The baby slipped straight into my arms. For a moment, I wondered why childbirth was such a big deal!”
Frozen February and Birth Certificate Drama
The ambulance rocked up minutes later, whisking mum and newborn to Royal County Hospital. Meanwhile, PC Yates carried on with work – even demanding a fresh uniform after an impromptu “after-birth coverage.”
Hours later, the hospital called to ask where exactly the baby was born. “At a marker post,” she admitted with a laugh.
18 Years On – A Happy Birthday Plea
Now 24 years into her service, Lindsay still thinks of that baby as her “firstborn.” Remarkably, she found out she was pregnant with her own son just two weeks later.
“I’d love to wish that brave little lad a happy 18th birthday! Can social media help me find him? I believe his family was from Hampshire’s Hedge End or Park Gate area back then.”
Got info? PC Yates’ plea is a heartwarming reminder of the bravery and quick thinking that turns ordinary cops into lifesavers.
