LPG Cylinder Leak Sparks Panic in Newport
Firefighters were called to Howard Close, Newport, after spotting a leaking LPG cylinder inside a gold VW with a “W” registration plate. The leak was traced back to a faulty valve, confirmed Julian Fountaine of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Residents Urged to Stay Indoors
Local residents in Howard Close were urged to remain inside their homes as crews worked tirelessly to cool the affected cylinder. Fire teams used fans and jets to safely disperse the leaking gas and stabilize the situation.
No Explosion Risk but Road Remains Closed
A monitoring jet was initially deployed but has since been halted in favour of Positive Pressure Ventilation to disperse leftover gas into the atmosphere. Fire chiefs confirmed there is no risk of explosion, but the cordon remains in place, with The Close still closed to all traffic.
Authorities continue to work on making the area safe following this tense incident.
