Deliberate Blaze Destroys 10x10m Patch of Corn
Two fire engines raced to tackle a grass fire that tore through a 10m by 10m patch of corn. Fire crews used hose reel jets to douse the flames and bring the situation under control. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the blaze.
Arson Suspected as Summer Fires Surge
Officials believe the fire was started deliberately. Grass fires are a common threat in the hot summer months, when dry ground fuels fast-spreading flames. These blazes don’t just damage crops—they can devastate wildlife, property, and even risk human lives.
How You Can Stop a Grass Fire
- Keep bonfires small, away from plants and buildings, and never leave them unattended.
- Never light a bonfire in windy weather.
- Dispose of smoking materials safely—fully stub them out and use a portable ashtray on the move.
- Always place disposable barbecues on a sturdy, non-flammable surface, away from greenery and property, and only bin them once completely cooled.
Take care now—the summer heat means fire danger is at its peak!
