Southampton Homes Evacuated After Balcony Collapse Fears
Residents Forced Out as Building Safety Questioned
Residents on Cranbury Avenue in Southampton were rushed from their homes yesterday evening. Structural concerns sparked an urgent evacuation, with emergency accommodation arranged while engineers scramble to secure the building.
History Repeats: Same Street Suffered Collapse in 2020
Shockingly, this is not the first time trouble struck these properties. Back on 8 March 2020, a major section of brickwork crashed down, shaking the community.
Fire Service Links Damage to Nearby Roadworks
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called just after 6pm to reports of structural damage. A first-floor balcony and window showed signs of distress, possibly linked to ongoing roadworks close by.
“We’ve arranged for Emergency Planning to rehouse some residents and got structural engineers on site to assess the danger,” said an HIWFRS officer.
The pavement outside has been cordoned off, keeping passers-by safe as the situation unfolds.
