Scrap Metal Ship Fire Sparks Emergency at Tilbury Docks
Fire crews rushed to Tilbury Docks at 8.09pm tonight after reports of a scrap metal blaze in the hold of a docked vessel. The fire is small but stubborn, prompting a controlled response.
Dockside Crane to the Rescue
Teams are using a dockside crane to carefully remove scrap metal from the ship. Station Manager Dave Bond said: “This is a small fire on board the ship. We are working with crews at Tilbury Docks to carry out a controlled unloading of the scrap metal and extinguish the fire.”
Firefighters Make Steady Progress
The operation is ongoing with steady progress. Firefighters continue unloading the cargo while closely monitoring temperature checks to keep the blaze under control.
