Fire Hits Eighth Floor Flat in Early Hours – No Injuries
Part of a four-room flat on the eighth floor suffered fire damage in the early hours. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Accidental Blaze Linked to Faulty Heater
The London Fire Brigade believes the fire was accidental, caused by resistive heating in an electrical heater. A spokesperson warned of the dangers of using old or faulty portable heaters this winter.
“If you’re using an older heater, check it’s in good condition. If it sparks, has loose wires, or missing safety features, replace it or get it checked by an expert,” warned the spokesperson. “Also, avoid heaters on recall lists and only buy from reputable sellers.”
Heater Safety Tips from Fire Brigade
- Keep heaters well away from curtains, furniture, and paperwork.
- Never use heaters to dry clothes.
- Maintain at least a one-metre distance from heaters to avoid fire risks.
- Position heaters securely – away from being knocked over or near pets.
Authorities have dealt with serious fires caused by counterfeit or non-compliant heaters in recent years, often linked to recalled products.
Swift Response Quells Flames
The Brigade was called at 12:52am and brought the blaze under control by 1:29am. Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters from Ealing, Acton, Southall, Park Royal, and Wembley rushed to the scene to tackle the fire.
