Firefighters Rush to London Flat Over Carbon Monoxide Fears

Firefighters swooped on a London flat after reports of potential carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Armed with specialist gear, they swept the flat and communal areas, thankfully finding no elevated CO levels.

Precautionary Hospital Checks for Family of Four

A man, a woman, and two children were taken to hospital as a precaution following the scare. The London Fire Brigade stressed the hidden dangers of carbon monoxide, warning it can kill within minutes.

“You can’t taste, see or smell CO fumes, but it can kill in minutes,” said a Brigade spokesperson. “It’s vital to fit CO alarms in all rooms with fuel-burning appliances. Make sure alarms can be heard throughout your home — especially while you’re asleep.”

“Learn the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning and what to do if you suspect exposure.”

What to Watch Out For: CO Poisoning Symptoms

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Breathlessness
  • Collapse
  • Loss of consciousness

The Brigade warns these symptoms can also affect pets — so keep a close eye on your furry friends too. Because CO poisoning symptoms often mimic common illnesses, the danger can be easily missed.

Fast Response from Firefighters

The Brigade was called at 12:09pm, wrapping up the incident by 2:16pm. Units from Hendon and Wembley Fire Stations were on the scene, ensuring the area was made safe.
