Blaze Breaks Out in 60-Acre Field Near Winchester
Over 30 firefighters rushed to tackle a massive 60-acre blaze in a field of standing crops and stubble near Winchester. The fire broke out on Tuesday, July 10th, just after 1pm, sending thick smoke visible from the nearby M3 motorway.
Huge Fire Response from Across Hampshire
Fire engines from Winchester, Eastleigh, and Hampshire Fire Headquarters were first on the scene. Backup vehicles, including Land Rovers, arrived from Alresford, Basingstoke, Fareham, Andover, and Lyndhurst to help contain the fire.
80+ Emergency Calls Flood Control Room
The Hampshire 1 and Control Room received over 80 calls reporting the incident on Chapel Lane in Easton. Crews worked hard to damp down the flames and hunt for any lurking hot spots.
Fire Put Out After Two Hours
The firefighters declared the fire under control and handed the site back to the landowner by 3pm Tuesday afternoon. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts, what could have been a disastrous blaze was contained before it spread further.
