More than 30 firefighters raced to tackle a huge fire scorching a 60-acre field of crops and stubble near Winchester.
Fire Services Mobilise Across Hampshire
At just after 1pm on Tuesday, July 10, fire engines from Winchester, Eastleigh, and Hampshire Fire HQ were scrambled. Support vehicles, including Land Rovers, joined from Alresford, Basingstoke, Fareham, Andover, and Lyndhurst.
Smoke Plume Visible from M3
Hampshire’s Control Room received over 80 calls as thick smoke billowed above Chapel Lane in Easton. Motorists on the M3 motorway spotted the towering plume of smoke.
Firefighters Contain Blaze by Mid-Afternoon
Crews worked swiftly to douse flames and hunt for any smouldering hotspots. The incident was declared under control and handed back to the landowner by 3pm the same day.
