Six Firefighters Test Positive for COVID-19 at Berkshire Stations

Six firefighters from Tilehurst and Whitley Wood fire stations have tested positive for COVID-19. All are recovering safely at home in isolation. Their identities and medical details remain confidential to protect their privacy.

Mass Testing and Contact Tracing Underway

A source from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that all staff at the two stations are currently being tested for the virus. Contact tracing efforts are being coordinated with the help of Public Health England.

Strict Safety Measures Keep Fire Stations Running

  • Stations are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised between shifts.
  • Staff numbers have been reduced to maintain social distancing.
  • Response teams now operate with just four crew members per appliance.
  • Some stations remain closed except for emergencies.
  • Training sessions are conducted separately to avoid mixing groups.
  • Changes have been made to how emergency calls are handled.

“One of my highest priorities is the safety and health of all the employees,” said the source. “The fire service follows—and exceeds where possible—the Government’s guidelines while continuing to serve our community.”

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service declined to comment further at this time.
