Massive Blaze Hits Lasham Gliding Clubhouse – Fire Crews Race to Scene!
Eight Fire Engines Battle Early Morning Fire
Crews from Alton, Basingstoke, Alresford, Hartley Wintney, and Tadley were scrambled at 5.21am to tackle a fierce fire at Lasham Gliding Clubhouse. A total of eight fire engines joined the effort, using breathing apparatus (BA), main jets (MJs), and high-reach jets (HRJs) to douse the flames.
No Injuries But Serious Damage
Thankfully, no one was inside the clubhouse when the fire broke out, so no injuries were reported. The rapid response from firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading further.
However, the clubhouse suffered serious damage and is now a sealed investigation site. Authorities have cordoned off the entire area, including the clubhouse, bunkhouse, and nearby Brown Elephant, until further notice.
Lasham Gliding Society Responds
“There was a fire in the Lasham Clubhouse early this morning. No one was in the clubhouse at the time and there was no risk to life otherwise. The quick response of the Fire Brigade contained the fire,” said Lasham Gliding Society.
“The clubhouse has sustained serious damage and remains an investigation site. As a consequence, the area including the clubhouse, the bunkhouse and the Brown Elephant have been cordoned off until further notice. We do intend to maintain regular flying and maintenance operations and will be setting up an alternative office facility. More information will be sent to members shortly. We’d like to remind members that no one is to enter the cordoned area without specific permission until further notice.”
The fire investigation is underway as the community looks to bounce back fast from this early morning emergency.
