Paul Quinn, 32, from Dingle, Liverpool, is teaming up with beloved local actress Claire Sweeney to co-present a Scouse alternative commentary for the Eurovision Song Contest grand final. This fresh take comes after a special BBC Radio Merseyside talent search that had the city buzzing.
First-Ever Regional Commentary for Eurovision
On Saturday, 13 May, Eurovision fans can tune in to hear the contest’s grand final through the lens of Liverpool’s unmistakable accent. It’s a landmark moment: the first time in 67 years that the show has offered commentary steeped in a regional voice connected closely to the host city.
Liverpool Hosts Eurovision for Ukraine
This year, Liverpool proudly hosts Eurovision 2023, stepping in for Ukraine, the 2022 winners in Turin. The city is ready to showcase its vibrant culture alongside this global music spectacle.
Local Legends Pumped for the Gig
Claire Sweeney, who kicked off her singing career at Liverpool’s iconic 1 Club and starred as Lindsey Corkhill in Brookside, is buzzing about the project. “I’m thrilled to be involved with Eurovision this year in Liverpool,” she said. “Working alongside Paul for the Scouse alternative commentary is going to be a fabulous addition. It’s going to be such fun, I can’t wait.”
