Despite rumours of cuts, a government spokesperson insisted the UK is still committed to delivering the high-speed line. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt admitted talks are underway but stressed no final decision has been made.

Over in Canada, Ford has struck a deal with the Unifor union, promising a juicy 10% pay rise in the first year, followed by smaller bumps of 2% and 3% over the next two years. Workers will also get a hefty $10,000 bonus based on productivity and quality.

This deal could see wages jump by up to 25% depending on the job. It won unanimous backing from the 5,600-strong union membership.

Big US drugstore chain Rite Aid is in crunch talks with creditors over a bankruptcy plan that could see it shut between 400 and 500 of its 2,300+ stores. The retailer may also hand over control of its remaining outlets to lenders.

Though no final call has been made, these moves underline Rite Aid’s struggle in a market dominated by giants Walgreens Boots Alliance and CVS Health.
