Huge Explosion Rocks Bristol Waste Plant: Four Trapped

Emergency crews from across Bristol rushed to Avonmouth after a massive explosion at a Bristol Waste Water facility. Firefighters from Avon Fire and Rescue confirmed multiple casualties on site.

Silo Collapse Traps Four Workers

The disaster struck just after 11.30am on Thursday at the state-of-the-art food waste processing plant on King Weston Lane. A silo suddenly collapsed, trapping four people inside.

The facility processes up to 40,000 tonnes of food waste a year. GENeco’s anaerobic digestion plant transforms food waste into renewable energy and nutrient-rich fertiliser.

Rescue Teams Battle Fire and Search for Survivors

Fire crews from Avonmouth, Southmead, Patchway, Kingswood, and Temple have all been deployed. Specialist Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) squads from Avon Fire and Rescue and nearby South Wales have joined the desperate operation after a fire broke out following the collapse.

At full capacity, the plant can supply energy to around 3,000 homes — but now the focus is on saving those trapped inside.
