Handbag Thief and Burglar Jailed for 5½ Years
Jack Edmed’s Crime Spree in Ashford
Jack Edmed, 26, has been locked up for five and a half years after a string of brazen crimes in Ashford. The desperate crook snatched a woman’s handbag, broke into two homes, and splashed victims’ cash on booze, cigarettes, and fast food.
Violent Robbery Turns Victim to Ground
Edmed’s crime spree kicked off on 23 July 2019. He grabbed a woman’s handbag as she walked down a residential street. When she fought back, Edmed yanked her to the ground, leaving injuries to her elbow and thigh. He then used her stolen bank cards in local shops.
House Burglaries and Shopping Spree
- One week later, Edmed broke into an Ashford home and stole another bank card.
- He blew over £130 in local shops and a fast food joint using the stolen cards.
- On 3 September 2019, Edmed struck again, stealing around £280 in cash, cards, earphones, and car keys from a third property.
- He used those stolen cards to buy more goods before police caught him on CCTV.
Caught on CCTV and Sent Behind Bars
Edmed was recognised by an officer from CCTV footage as he used stolen cards in shops and restaurants. Now of no fixed address, the crook pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and two counts of burglary.
He was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on 14 January 2020.
PC Richard Glass said: “The victim bravely tried to hold on to her bag, but Edmed’s violence caused her injuries. He then brazenly invaded homes to grab bank cards and greedily splurge on alcohol and cigarettes.
“Thanks to a strong case and three guilty pleas, this prison sentence takes him off our streets for a good stretch.”
