West Sussex Fire Service Rolls Out Free Biker Safety Workshops
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is stepping up for Motorcycle Awareness Week with seven free Biker Down workshops. The goal? Slash the shocking rates of biker injuries and deaths on local roads.
Bikers Bear Brunt of Road Danger
Motorcyclists are a small slice of the traffic pie, making up just 5% of vehicles on the road. Yet they account for nearly 25% of those killed or seriously injured. West Sussex firefighters want to change that grim stat by teaching lifesaving skills to riders and other road users alike.
What the Workshops Cover
- Managing the scene after a collision
- Critical first aid, including helmet removal
- The science of being seen to avoid accidents
These sessions give bikers essential knowledge for emergencies and empower everyone to provide help if needed.
Firefighter & Expert Biker Speaks Out
“Riding a bike means you’ve got far less protection than in a car,” says Richard Poole, Watch Manager at West Sussex Fire & Rescue and Biker Down instructor. “As a biker myself, I’ve seen the dangers up close. That’s why I urge all road users to join our workshops.”
“Our courses are informal but packed with vital info. My challenge to residents: if you came across a biker crash, would you know what to do? If not, these workshops are for you.”
Workshop Dates and Locations
Sessions run 6pm to 10pm. Book your spot now to get clued up on lifesaving skills.
