Freshwater Lifeboat Station Locked Down for 50 More Years
Freshwater’s Independent Lifeboat station has just scored a massive win. On Sunday, 22 April 2018, the Trustees signed a new lease locking in their spot for the next 50 years. This deal secures the future of the lifeboat base, putting their ambitious five-year plan firmly on track.
Big Plans for a Smoother Launch
The lifeboat crew have battled relentless shingle buildup on their slipway for years. Their £1.5 million makeover aims to fix that, upgrading both the slipway and the boathouse. With the lease secured, cash donors can now invest confidently — knowing the lifeboat’s mission in Freshwater Bay isn’t going anywhere.
Experts Helped Seal the Deal
Richard Barton-Wood, Trainee Coxswain, Treasurer, and Trustee, spearheaded the lease talks with the Isle of Wight County Council. He said,
“I’d like to thank Matthew Barrow, Partner of Lester Aldridge Solicitors in Southampton and Martin Hastelow, Head of Office at Savills in Southampton for their help and expertise in making this happen.
With legal and property pros backing them, the Freshwater Independent Lifeboat team can now focus on saving lives — with a solid home for decades to come.
