Natalie Portman goes deep-space crazy in Lucy in the Sky, while Kristen Stewart battles an earthquake in the underwater thriller Underwater. Plus, Hamilton and Schwarzenegger make a spicy comeback in one of the year’s most daring flicks.
It’s superhero season too, with attitude! Catch Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, Will Smith in Hancock, Zack Snyder’s star-studded adaptation of Watchmen, and Elizabeth Banks in Brightburn, about a sinister alien child crashing on Earth.
Visionary Filmmakers and Timeless Sci-Fi Gems
Honouring legends, the lineup boasts Steven Spielberg’s Tom Cruise blockbusters Minority Report and War of the Worlds. J.J. Abrams brings double trouble with Super 8 and Star Trek classics. Don’t miss David Cronenberg’s cult hit Scanners and Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin, recently named best British film of the 21st century by cinema critics.
Exploration, Adventure & Family Fun
Adventure seekers are in for treats like Beyond the Infinite, the mind-bending Japanese film Two Minutes, and the eerie Russian thriller Sputnik. Comedy comes courtesy of Mandibles, about two men taming a giant fly for cash. Joe Cornish’s Arthurian kid’s fantasy The Kid Who Would Be King, Disney’s classic Flight of the Navigator, Terry Gilliam’s time-travel romp Time Bandits, and the quirky Muppets from Space round out the fun.
Star Trek fans can binge the franchise from William Shatner’s original Star Trek: The Motion Picture to Sir Patrick Stewart’s Star Trek: Insurrection and Chris Pine’s 2009 reboot.
