The homeowners had been out shopping when they came back to find smoke billowing from their garage. On investigating, they spotted their tumble dryer ablaze.
Fire crews arrived fast and doused the flames, preventing the fire from spreading into the house.
Fire Chief Praises Quick-Thinking Residents
“Thankfully, the occupants had closed the internal door, which prevented most of the smoke from getting into the house and stopped the fire from spreading,” said Watch Manager Nick Trice.
The exact cause is still under investigation, though overheating or a fault in the dryer is suspected.
