DHL Strikes at Gatwick Suspended After New Pay Offer
DHL workers at Gatwick Airport have hit pause on their planned strike. The Unite union confirmed that 600 DHL staff, who support easyJet’s Gatwick ops, won’t walk out from July 28 to August 1 after a fresh pay offer was put on the table.
Other Workers Still Set to Strike
But the drama isn’t over yet. Around 450 workers from ASC, Menzies Aviation, and GGS are still expected to strike during the same period. A ballot will decide if DHL workers join a second wave of strikes from August 4 to 8.
Union Calls for Serious Talks
Unite regional officer Dominic Rothwell said the DHL team’s pause is a ‘good faith’ move while they mull over the pay deal. He urged the remaining employers to get back to negotiations and offer terms the union can accept.
Travel Chaos Looms as EasyJet Cuts Flights
Last week, Gatwick Airport readied contingency plans amid strike fears. The walkouts threaten to add to Europe’s summer air chaos, already hit by continent-wide air traffic control strikes.
EasyJet, which depends heavily on Gatwick, has axed 1,700 flights to brace for disruption.
The temporary strike halt gives room for talks that could end travel headaches this summer. The upcoming ballot will seal the fate of the second round of strikes.
