Havant Parks Play Areas and Gyms Shut Amid Coronavirus Crackdown
From today, Havant Borough Council is slapping striped tape across open play areas and outdoor gym equipment in local parks. The move aims to keep residents safe and curb the spread of coronavirus by shutting down unfenced public facilities.
Playgrounds and Gyms Off-Limits
The council has blocked off all open play areas and outdoor gyms that aren’t fenced in. Residents are urged to respect the tape and stay away from these hotspots.
Stick to the Rules: Stay Home, Stay Safe
The government insists everyone must stay home as much as possible to support the NHS. You should only leave for:
- Shopping for essentials like food and medicine — keep trips to a minimum.
- One form of daily exercise — such as a run, walk, or cycle — alone or with household members.
- Medical needs — including donating blood, avoiding injury, or caring for vulnerable people.
- Travelling to work — but only if working from home isn’t an option.
Keep Your Distance – No Group Gatherings
Remember to keep two metres apart when outside. Public groups larger than two aren’t allowed unless everyone lives together or it’s work related. That means:
- No football matches
- No group workouts with trainers
- No picnics or BBQs
Council Leader Warns: Parks Are for Exercise Only
“We know our parks and open spaces are a lifeline for many residents, but they are only open to provide areas for exercise,” said Councillor Michael Wilson, Leader of Havant Borough Council. “They are not for picnics, BBQs, gatherings, or football matches with friends.”
“Some of our play areas and outdoor gyms aren’t fenced in, and we’ve heard people are using them anyway. Following government guidelines, we’re taping them off to prevent use.”
