An Afghan Special Forces veteran who fought alongside the British Army is in a critical battle after suffering a serious brain injury in a shocking assault at a railway station. Noor Aziz Ahmadzai, 39, was airlifted to the hospital after collapsing following the attack while working as a security guard at Weymouth station last month. Scans showed he suffered a dangerous brain bleed. Although he has regained consciousness, the road to recovery will be long and tough.

Two Teens Arrested and Released as Police Probe Attack

British Transport Police swooped on the scene and arrested two 17-year-old girls in connection with the assault. Both have since been released while investigations continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Atwell said: “Our investigation into this extremely concerning incident is ongoing. Our thoughts are with the member of staff involved whose family we are supporting.” “We’re urging anyone who witnessed the attack to come forward by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 741 of 26.”

Brave Vet’s Family Rallies Despite Heartbreaking Setbacks

Aziz Ahmadzai’s former partner, Georgia Morse, who shares a two-year-old son with him, has stepped up as his advocate through this devastating ordeal. She was woken by police in the early hours with the grim news of his life-threatening injury.

Georgia told the BBC: “They said he had been involved in a serious incident and had a serious brain injury. While they were with me, they were getting updates saying he had a bleed on the brain. It was really worrying.” “It was a complete shock and really distressing, especially to hear it was while he was at work.”

She revealed the frustrating reality that, despite his heroic military service, Aziz Ahmadzai hasn’t qualified for help from UK veterans charities.

“We’ve reached out to military charities and unfortunately he falls through the cracks because he wasn’t a British-serving veteran, even though he served alongside them,” Georgia explained. “With this kind of brain injury, it takes a long time to see the full picture of what we’re working with. He’s still struggling to communicate, but he’s alive and for now, that’s a win.”

A GoFundMe page set up to support Georgia and their son has raised over £13,000.

From War-Zone Hero to UK Hopeful

Aziz Ahmadzai had a distinguished military career in Afghanistan and trained at the UK’s Sandhurst Academy. He became deputy commander of a specialist counter-terrorism unit, facing suicide bombers firsthand. He was deployed to major crises, including the Taliban siege of the Intercontinental Hotel in 2018 and a brutal attack on a Kabul maternity ward in 2020. When the Taliban seized Afghanistan in 2021, Aziz fled to the UK under the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy due to his work with British forces. Despite his desire to continue serving with the UK military, he must first become a British citizen — a process requiring five years’ residency. This tragic attack has robbed a brave veteran of his health, but community support is rallying to help him fight back.
