Eurostar Train Stuck in Channel Tunnel Sparks Chaos
Holidaymakers heading through the Eurotunnel face massive headaches after a Eurostar train broke down under the Channel, causing delays of over four hours. The morning incident forced operators to shut part of the track, slashing service to a single lane right in the thick of the busy holiday travel rush.
Stranded Passengers Fume as Delays Mount
Passengers stuck in the tunnel took to social media to vent their frustration. Martyn S blasted: “A Eurotunnel train is stuck in a tunnel, and service is constrained to a single lane. Boarding lanes and the car park are full, and no one’s getting through check-in.”
Another traveller, Chip Cain, added: “I’ve been trapped in the Channel for over an hour. No air, no updates. Thanks for ruining our holiday.”
Gaby Koppel, who was on the train, revealed she was stuck for two hours before staff finally provided an update.
Traffic Jam at Folkestone Terminal
The stalled train is now moving slowly towards Calais. Passengers will be transferred to another train there to continue their journey. But the fallout is already snarling traffic at Folkestone, with queues backing up onto the busy M20 slip road.
Delays at Folkestone currently exceed four and a half hours, sparking anger among travellers desperate to reach the mainland.
Eurotunnel Responds, Warns of Ongoing Delays
A Eurotunnel spokesperson said: “Train 9080 had a technical issue this morning. It is now running at reduced speed to Calais, where passengers will switch to another Eurostar train heading to Paris. Thank you for your understanding.”
